The Update about Blogs and OneBookShelf
almost 6 years ago – Wed, Jul 25, 2018 at 11:38:42 AM

Ciao ciao, Martians!

As we climb inexorably toward the second of our stretch goals, we'd like to share a few cogent links and let you know a little more about our fulfillment of digital books while we're at it.

Blogging is Hot Now

Everyone is web logging now, or "blogging." This is a new thing since the last time you were on the island, most likely. I posted a blog on the Atlas Games website about my first experience with Over the Edge. I like these first experience stories! Share yours below, if you dare.

In addition, RPG reviewer Pookie UK has a retrospective review of the game, in case you're wondering where things were and where things are now. I'm hoping he follows this one up with a review of the new edition. Wouldn't we all like that?

If you have a biog, and it seems related to Over the Edge, share it in the comments!

OneBookShelf's Role in Fulfillment

Sliding into adjacent realities is an infrequent occurrence on Al Amarja but it's been known to happen. Don't you remember that fuzzy childhood toy that everyone bought when you were younger? Tickle Me Tiffany Trilobite? Well, in the spirit of pulling those realities ever closer, Over the Edge is emerging on DriveThruRPG and we're going to use their services to help us fulfill your digital rewards. If you prefer BackerKit, have no fear! We're using them, too. Better safe than sorry, my grandmother always told me.

This may also be relevant to you if you've been wondering about adding the Retro Pack to your pledge level. For $20 you get sixteen or more older edition OTE books that, added together, come to a lot more money. Almost incalculable amounts. Save your bills and sign up for the Retro Pack, and then enjoy your digital books in the comfort of your own studio apartment in Sunken Plaza later.

Until the stars blink out in your eyes once again,

The Update about the Core Print Upgrade and Jonathan's Interviews
almost 6 years ago – Sun, Jul 22, 2018 at 11:50:51 PM

Ciao ciao, Martians!

Wow, would you look at that? We're over $71K and heading toward the first stretch goal for Over the Edge. Some folks have asked us about the space between these goals, and the simple fact of the matter is that we've configured the stretch goal targets so that our production is fully supported, all additional items and add-ons are guaranteed, and your investment is protected.

We don't want anything going wrong, and given the way Mover agents stare at us in the streets of Four Points district we know we're onto something.

Anyway, the Core Print Upgrade

Our first stretch goal is to make the standard, Core Print hardcover edition of the book even better than it is. Right now it's a sturdy, full-color, quality rulebook, the sort you've seen on bookshelves and in backpacks everywhere. We like this version, and we think it's good, but we think we can get you folks a great version, too. So here's what the upgrade includes:

  • The cover is printed on silver metallic paper instead of 128gsm glossy
  • We add a quarter-inch ribbon marker
  • We make the interior paper 115gsm matt

We believe the end result is a more dramatic, more appealing, more up-to-the-standards-of-this-sort-of-project rulebook.

Jonathan Is Interviewed

Peerless scribe and Al Amarja tour guide hors par Jonathan Tweet has been talking to people about Over the Edge and the island in preparation for your return visit. Here are a few highlights:

  • Jonathan talks to James Introcaso of Tabletop Babble
  • Jonathan opines on KISW Rock 99.9FM (check out that weird transcript)
  • Jonathan's chat with Ken and Robin from last year's Gen Con is on the latest KARTAS

The FAQ is Updated

That's right, the FAQ is updated. Go read it.

Until next time, peace be upon you, cousins in prosperity and fear, fellow travelers in light and darkness.

The Update about the Coatless Code Coffee Table
almost 6 years ago – Sun, Jul 22, 2018 at 11:50:18 PM

Ciao ciao, Martians!

With the first stretch goal looming, I wanted to grab a moment to let you know something else that's coming up later today.

John Nephew Carves Wood

Yes, Atlas Games president John Nephew loves to work on wood. He chainsaws, he routs, he carves, and he assembles. And he's put together a fantastic item that we're going to include as a single, high-pledge tier item later today. It's a coffee table!

Look at this thing.
Look at this thing.

It's a one of a kind, hearkening back to the so-called Coatless Code of the Cut-Ups, a faction that operates on Al Amarja and made super famous in the previous edition of Over the Edge for being so incredibly weird that they got their own supplement (which is Weather the Cuckoo Likes, included in the Retro Pack).

No, really look at it.
No, really look at it.

The pledge for this item's going to be $750, and we can only ship the item to a USA address. Shipping is not included, but we're going to throw in a copy of the Core Luxe rulebook, as well as the Core Digital, because John cares for you and so do we.

Look for this pledge to go up sometime around 5pm Central time today (July 18). There's only one of them, so first come, first served, first the owner of a hand-made, John Nephew original.

And now from the top.
And now from the top.

The Update about Remembered Lives
almost 6 years ago – Sun, Jul 22, 2018 at 11:49:54 PM

Ciao ciao, Martians!

On the docket today: we reached our first stretch goal, and we're adding a new one in between that one and the poster map!

Unlocked! Core Print Gets an Upgrade

That's right! Because we hit that $75,000 stretch goal, we've locked in the upgrade to the Core Print book to a foil cover and a ribbon bookmark plus better paper. This is the version of the book that's going to be on sale in stores, too. Everyone who pledged at a level that gives you a Core Print rulebook gets this upgrade.

Remembered Lives

We've been asked by some folks why the six-adventure anthology for Over the Edge, Forgotten Lives, isn't in the Retro Pack. That's because we forgot about it! But never fear. If we reach $90,000 in pledges, we're just going to give everyone who backs at a level that includes the Core Digital version of the rulebook ($20+) a copy of Forgotten Lives in PDF for no additional cost.

Forgotten Lives includes adventures by such industry notables as Keith Baker, Chris Pramas, Jeff Tidball, and Greg Stolze. Adapting the scenarios to the new game is a piece of cake (that's the subject of a blog post in the future, actually) and we're happy to make it available to you.

Blurry and indistinct but very very real.
Blurry and indistinct but very very real.

Stay serene and sure-minded,

The Update about Killing Lee Garvin and WaRP
almost 6 years ago – Sun, Jul 22, 2018 at 11:49:47 PM

Ciao ciao, Martians!

As we gather our resources and prepare for another weekend on sunny Al Amarja, we thought we'd share a couple of announcements of some relevance to Over the Edge and our Kickstarter campaign.

Killing Lee Garvin

Lee Garvin is a game designer, known to many as one of the feverish minds behind Tales of the Floating Vagabond. Like many independent creators in this day and age he is struggling to deal with medical bills so his friend Greg Porter, who designed some cross-system conversion rules for Over the Edge 1st edition, has a Kickstarter campaign to help him out. Killing Lee Garvin is a ruthlessly acerbic card game where players either try to save Lee from a series of hapless accidents, or perform a heel turn and make things worse. With 11 days to go it's still in need of more supporters so check it out.

WaRP: Wanton Role-Playing Bundle

The rules for the previous editions of Over the Edge were added to the Open Game License several years ago, and are free for anyone to make use of in designing games. Here at Atlas we also commissioned some PDF-only scenarios that make use of the rules, including one (Warped Adventures: Collision) that's set on Al Amarja. These books aren't in the Retro Pack but we didn't want to keep them from being part of the project, so we're offering them as a bundle for only $5 extra.

If you'd like to add them to your pledge, just kick the pledge amount up by five bucks. Once the campaign is over and we send out surveys through BackerKit, you'll be able to select the WaRP Bundle from the list of add-ons.

Have a weekend full of sun, sin, and sedition, Martians! We'll check in with you on Monday.
